Vintage Signed MA Hadley Pottery Farmers Wife Jam Jar Lidded Sugar Canister Folk Art
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 421 | The Louisville Folk-Art Pot
Founded in Louisville, Kentucky, by Mary Alice and George Hadley in the mid-20th century, Hadley Pottery became legendary for its robust, hand-thrown stoneware and whimsical, narrative folk-art illustrations. Every single piece is hand-painted under the glaze, ensuring that no two ceramic animals, farm scenes, or figures are ever identical.
Standing approximately 3 1/4 inches tall with its original matching lid, this small covered jam jar or mustard pot features one of Hadley's most beloved classic designs: the "Farmer's Wife" from their iconic Country Scene series. Hand-painted in rich cobalt blue with accents of muted green and warm ochre, the jar depicts a charming folk-art woman in a gathered dress, accompanied by whimsical foliate leaf motifs.
The rim of the jar and the matching fitted lid are finished with hand-brushed blue banding. Turned over, the unglazed clay base bears the authentic, hand-written signature: "M.A. Hadley" in cobalt blue script. Miniature Hadley lidded jars are notoriously difficult to find complete with their original matching lids, making this a delightful find for collectors of American studio pottery and Kentucky folk art.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
