Vintage Federal Glass White Milk Glass 3.5 Quart Covered Casserole Dish Heat Proof

✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 420 | The Mid-Century Ovenware Workhorse

Before decorative patterns took over mid-century kitchens, American glasshouses produced clean, durable utility pieces designed to go straight from the oven to the dining table. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the Federal Glass Company produced some of the most reliable heat-proof milk glass ovenware of the 1950s and 1960s.

This generous 3 1/2-quart round covered casserole is a classic example of Federal's heavy utility line. Measuring approximately 9 1/2 inches across the bowl and standing over 5 inches tall with its matching domed lid, it offers exceptional capacity for holiday stuffings, baked casseroles, or roasting vegetables.

Crafted from thick, opaque white milk glass with a brilliant, glossy finish, the bowl features a smooth interior and a textured exterior base. The matching domed lid is topped with a distinctive flared pedestal knob, offering an easy grip for oven mitts.

The underside of the base bears Federal’s unmistakable embossed trademark: the shield enclosing the letter "F," flanked by "HEAT PROOF" and "USA," alongside the embossed "3 1/2 QT" capacity stamp. A handsome, highly functional staple for retro kitchens, milk glass collections, or everyday baking.

🔍 Specifications, Materials & Condition

Measurements
Diameter: Approximately 9 1/2" across the bowl rim
Height with Lid: Approximately 5 to 5 1/2" tall overall
Capacity: 3.5 Quarts

Materials: Opaque white heat-proof milk glass.

Condition Transparency: Very good vintage condition. The heavy milk glass bowl and matching lid are structurally sound, completely free of chips, major cracks, or structural repairs. The bright white milk glass retains its glossy, vibrant finish. As is common with honest vintage ovenware, inspection reveals light, normal surface utensil scratching inside the bowl and faint shelf wear/grime along the unglazed bottom foot ring.

Care: Hand washing is recommended to preserve the glossy milk glass finish over time. While marked heat-proof, avoid extreme thermal shock (such as moving straight from a freezing refrigerator into a blazing hot oven).

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.

Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.

The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
