Vintage 1930s Ransburg Style Floral Cookie Jar Crock Hand Painted Pink Daisy Lid 10 In
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 414 | The Hoosier Pantry Crock
During the Great Depression, American homemakers looked for small, cheerful splashes of color to brighten utilitarian kitchens. Companies like Harper J. Ransburg of Indianapolis turned everyday stoneware blanks into cheerful folk art, using bright enamel oil paints to apply floral bouquets and vibrant primary trim directly over fired kitchen crocks and cookie jars.
Standing 10 1/4 inches tall to the top of its fitted lid finial, this authentic 1930s to 1940s kitchen crock captures that warm, collected country aesthetic. Molded from heavy buff stoneware clay with an off-white Bristol glaze, the jar features two integrated side lug handles and a wide, generous belly measuring nearly 8 inches across.
The front is hand-painted in the distinctive cold-paint technique with three blooming pink daisies or cosmos featuring golden-yellow centers and deep green leaves. True to period production, the upper jar rim, base horizon, and stepped lid are highlighted with bold red enamel striping. The drop-in lid features a recessed flange and a sturdy central round button knob, fitting neatly onto the interior jar collar.
Because cold paint was applied over the finished glaze rather than refired in a kiln, nearly a century of gentle kitchen handling has created honest, authentic surface flaking across the red striping and flower petals. This aged patina gives the crock genuine farmhouse soul, making it a handsome addition to an antique Hoosier cabinet, a rustic baker's rack, or a country cottage kitchen counter.

The ceramic body features natural manufacturing glaze pops, scattered dark iron pinholes, and faint fine crazing typical of Depression-era pottery.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
