Vintage 2001 Ursula Leyk Bavarian Chapel Ceramic Candle House Rothenburg Germany 7 In
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 411 | The Alpine Sanctuary
Along the cobblestone lanes of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, master ceramicists Bernd and Ursula Leyk spent decades translating historic German architecture into miniature handcrafted pottery. Known as Leyk Lichthäuser, each piece is painstakingly hand-molded, pierced, and glazed from fine white ceramic clay, designed to come alive with an authentic architectural glow when a tea light or candle is lit inside.
Model No. 17, the "Bayerische Kapelle" (Bavarian Chapel), captures the romantic vernacular architecture of southern Germany's alpine villages. Standing 7 inches tall to the tip of its pointed bell tower, the chapel features a soaring, asymmetrical gable roof finished in a rich, gloss-fired burgundy-red wash with incised diamond roof-tile detailing. The warm ivory ceramic façade is detailed with a Gothic arched open doorway, lancet windows, and a pierced trefoil floral rose window beneath the eaves.
Every architectural opening is trimmed in dark spruce-green glaze accents, echoing traditional Bavarian folk craftsmanship. Inside, the hollow chamber welcomes a standard tea light or LED luminary, allowing warm candlelight to stream through the high arched nave windows and the bell-tower aperture.
Turned over, the base bears the impressed studio hallmark of Leyk Lichthäuser, the embossed model title "Bayerische Kapelle," Ursula Leyk's incised studio signature, and the stamped production date of 2001. A retired early-2000s treasure for collectors of European ceramic luminaries, German folk art, and warm winter village displays.

Width (Façade): Approximately 3 7/8" across the front entrance
Depth (Length): Approximately 4 3/4" to 5" deep along the side wall

Care: Wipe clean with a soft, dry micro-fiber cloth. If using with a traditional wax tea light, allow ceramic to cool completely before handling, as the upper spire will warm from the rising heat.
A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
