Mid-century European glass blowers knew that winter evergreen boughs needed something more luminous than flat crimson and forest green. By the late 1950s, workshops in West Germany and Poland began experimenting with theatrical contrast: marrying brilliant peacock turquoise lacquer with soft satin champagne gold, framed by hand-piped geometric gilding that felt closer to Viennese architecture than standard department store trim.

Offered individually, this petite blown glass sphere measures approximately 2 1/2 inches tall and commands attention through its refined ornamental balance. The sphere alternates between high-gloss, mirror-reflective turquoise blue lacquer and dual horizontal bands of frosted champagne-gold satin.

The craftsmanship is in the secondary surface decoration. Stenciled across the rich turquoise glass are intricate interlocking gold circular arches, creating an Art Deco fish-scale or lotus petal lattice. Framing each gold horizon are double tiers of textured silver glass glitter that catch direct candlelight and fairy lights with frosty vintage brilliance.

The blown glass sphere and integral glass neck are structurally sound, completely free of cracks, chips, or hairline fractures. The glass pike beneath the metal cap is intact with original blue lacquer extending upward. The metallic turquoise and satin champagne bands show light, honest age-related surface rub marks and microscopic pinprick silvering specks typical of 60-year-old glass. Hand-applied gold geometric lattice and silver glitter bands remain remarkably intact and distinct, with light, natural glitter shedding. Original scalloped metal cap is clean, firmly seated, and fitted with its original wire hanging loop.

Care: Handle with clean, dry hands. Dust gently using a dry, soft camel-hair artist brush. Keep completely dry, as water or liquid cleaning solutions will dissolve vintage water-soluble glitter adhesives and lift exterior lacquers. Wrap in acid-free tissue paper and store inside a sturdy, crush-proof box.
