Maple City Pottery Crock Harrisburg, PA Blue Star Stoneware Jar 2007 4 In
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 367 | The Susquehanna Diplomatic Treaty of 2007
In 2007, someone in central Pennsylvania decided that tourist souvenirs had gotten completely out of hand.
Every gift shop along the Susquehanna was flooded with flimsy plastic keychains, generic shot glasses, and mass-produced foam fingers. If you wanted to celebrate the historic capital city of Harrisburg, your options were thoroughly underwhelming.
So, a clever retailer orchestrated an interstate diplomatic mission.
They bypassed the plastic novelty factories entirely and commissioned the master ceramicists at Maple City Pottery out in Monmouth, Illinois, to hand-throw an authentic piece of American folk stoneware.
The premise was brilliant: take dense American clay, hand-turn it into a heavyweight miniature crock, dip it in traditional salt glaze, and hand-trail a bold cobalt-blue primitive star right across the belly with "HARRISBURG PA." arched proudly above it.
Look closely at the cobalt work. This was not stamped by a machine. The dark blue lettering and folk star are rendered in thick, raised slip-trailed glaze, complete with honest little artisan drips that prove an actual human being was holding the slip bottle at the studio wheel.
The side bears the crisp impressed factory shield mark verifying its handmade heritage in Monmouth, Illinois, along with its 2007 date of origin and size mark.
Finished in a warm, glossy tan-to-chestnut ombre glaze with a sturdy rolled collar rim, this versatile little vessel was engineered for real life.
Whether styled on a kitchen island holding wooden tasting spoons, stationed on an office desk as a distinguished pen caddy, or displayed on an open pantry shelf holding dried field botanicals, it brings immediate warmth, American pottery tradition, and historic state pride to your home.
Having spent nearly two decades in careful domestic display, it remains in excellent studio condition. The stoneware body is solid with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The salt glaze is glossy and vibrant, displaying honest handmade character, including small white glaze flecks on the upper reverse, light glaze lightening along the outer rim edge, and faint interior rim haze.
Style it on a farmhouse hutch, station it by your coffee maker for cinnamon sticks, or gift it to someone with roots in central Pennsylvania who loves authentic American pottery.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character that matches its age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
