Vintage Amber Glass Canister Set Tumblers Wheaton NJ Apothecary Bar 5 Pc
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 366 | The Millville Tavern & Apothecary Syndicate of 1972
In 1972, suburban home entertainers decided that modern mid-century glassware was simply not dramatic enough for a Saturday night cocktail hour.
You could not just serve a guest a mixed drink in a plain glass tumbler. That had zero theatrical presence.
Homeowners wanted their bar carts to look like an 18th-century seaport tavern, and their kitchen counters to feel like a mysterious colonial apothecary shop.
Enter the Millville Tavern & Apothecary Syndicate.
Pressed in heavy honey-amber glass by the historic Wheaton Glass Company in Millville, New Jersey, this 5-piece collection was engineered to provide instant historical gravitas to suburban domestic living.
Look at the lineup in this lot.
First, you have two matching lidded apothecary jars. Each canister features a raised square panel framing a classic Pennsylvania Dutch folk-art scene: a central love heart, a perched songbird, and blooming flowers, topped with a fitted lid sporting a faceted octagonal finial knob.
They were originally sold to hold loose-leaf teas, bath salts, or lemon drops, though they spent most of the 1970s guarding grandma's secret stash of butterscotch disks.
Then come the three companion tumblers, each pressed with its own distinct story:
The Maritime Sentry: An hourglass-shaped pinched glass featuring an embossed sailing clipper ship navigating heavy seas beneath nautical stars, dated 1827.
The Colonial Palm: A straight-sided tumbler molded with an exotic palm tree draped in beaded festoons.
The Arched Medallion: A matching tumbler featuring a classical portrait medallion nestled beneath graceful swags of garland beads.
Whether styled on an open kitchen shelf catching the afternoon sun, stationed on a retro bar cart for evening bourbon pours, or used on a bathroom vanity for cotton swabs and curios, this honey-amber set brings immediate warmth, rich texture, and nostalgic Americana charm to your home.
Having lived through fifty years of gatherings, all five pieces remain in very good vintage condition. The glass is structurally sound with no chips, cracks, or fleabites along any of the drinking rims or lid seating flanges. Authentic vintage character includes light base shelf friction, tiny factory mold air bubbles, old tan price sticker residue on one base, and a light cosmetic scuff patch inside the bottom floor of one tumbler.
Style them on a rustic wooden shelf, use them to elevate your home bar, or gift them to a collector of authentic American pressed glass.

📺 Styling & Display Ideas

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character that matches its age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
