Vintage Cast Iron Floral Doorstop 1980s White Poppy Urn Flower Basket 11 In
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 357 | The Heavyweight Country Cottage Revival of 1986
In 1986, suburban interior decorating was seized by a sudden, unstoppable fever for country cottage romance.
Every household had ruffled floral chintz curtains, botanical wallpaper borders, and pastel goose figurines.
However, homeowners quickly realized a major logistical problem. Those billowing, heavy chintz curtains acted like massive sails in the summer breeze, pulling interior doors shut with enough force to wake the entire neighborhood.
A lightweight plastic wedge was completely useless. It would shoot across the hardwood floor like a hockey puck.
Enter the Heavyweight Country Cottage Revival.
Cast in solid American iron during the height of the 1980s country folk art boom, this doorstop was created by recasting the classic 1930s Hubley poppy bouquet mold.
The strategy was pure practical genius: take over five solid pounds of heavy foundry iron, dress it up as an elegant bouquet of ruffled French poppies, and station it on the floor to hold the draft line with absolute authority.
Look at the sculptural relief. The flowers feature ruffled petals (frequently identified as poppies or parrot tulips) with realistic winding stems and pierced openwork between the blooms.
The bouquet sits in a fluted classical urn on an architectural stem, anchored by a heavy half-round base with a flat back designed to sit completely flush against the bottom of a door.
Turn it around, and you will find the authentic open-back hollow casting, two circular sprue plug marks, and clear raised markings: a circular copyright symbol, 1980s production details, and partial maker lettering cast directly into the iron.
Finished in a classic glossy white enamel, it has spent the last forty years earning genuine, honest vintage character.
The paint has naturally chipped along the high points of the petals and base rim to reveal the dark iron beneath, accented by warm rust patina around the pedestal from decades of guarding farmhouse floors.
Whether tasked with holding open an antique bedroom door, styled as a heavy bookend on a library shelf, or displayed on a fireplace hearth among potted plants, this piece brings immediate vintage weight, texture, and grandmillennial charm to your space.
Having faithfully served through four decades of household drafts, it remains in very good vintage condition. The cast iron is completely solid, stable, and crack-free. The white painted finish displays authentic vintage chipping, edge rubs, and scattered rust patina, particularly around the front pedestal and bottom rim. The underside will be wrapped securely in a plastic barrier for shipment to protect your floors and rugs.
Style it against an open screen door, rest it on a brick hearth, or gift it to someone who loves authentic vintage iron with real country soul.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character that matches its age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
