Vintage Tole Tray Avocado Green Metal Serving Tray Pierced Gallery Floral 18 In

✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 356 | The Avocado Canapé Escort of 1973

In 1973, you could not simply hand a dinner guest a cocktail weenie on a flimsy paper napkin. That would be an absolute insult to the proud institution of suburban hospitality.

Enter the Avocado Canapé Escort.

Finished in deep, unapologetic avocado green with a raised pierced gallery featuring literal sweetheart cutouts, this tray was engineered to transport heavy loads of cheese balls, deviled eggs, and pigs-in-a-blanket straight through the gauntlet of the sunken living room.

Look at the presentation. The form is a bold eight-sided octagon with flared gallery sides, integrated kidney-shaped carrying handles, and a gold-trimmed edge.

The pierced border alternates elegant scrollwork with pierced hearts, providing ventilation and visual flair while ensuring your cocktail glasses did not slide off into the shag carpeting.

The centerpiece is a hand-painted floral still life featuring two lush cream-and-taupe cabbage roses surrounded by starry accent blossoms. The leaves are rendered in shimmering metallic gold paint with bold, sweeping dark veins, hand-brushed with enough confidence to impress the most discerning neighborhood bridge club.

As for the vintage rust patches across the left rim and tray bed? That is not damage. That is a decorated domestic combat medal.

Sometime during the mid-1970s, someone bumped the card table during a fiercely competitive round of bridge, slopping an overfilled Tom Collins across the gallery. It was wiped with a kitchen towel, returned to the pantry, and survived fifty years of cocktail parties to tell the tale.

Whether styled as a decorative riser on a retro bar cart, leaned upright inside a farmhouse dining hutch, or used to organize perfumes and trinkets on a bedroom dresser, this tray brings instant vintage soul, warmth, and retro personality to your home.

Having lived through decades of domestic gatherings, it remains in good vintage condition. The sheet metal structure is solid, flat, and sturdy with intact pierced cutout detailing and strong handles. The hand-painted floral bouquet is bright and largely intact, showing light age rubbing on the gold leaves. The tray exhibits authentic vintage character throughout, including scattered rust spotting along the pierced rim, handles, and left interior floor, along with edge friction wear to the gold border and typical scratches on the green underside.

Style it on a bar cart beneath vintage glassware, display it on an easel in a country kitchen, or use it as a coffee table catchall for magazines and candles.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.

Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.

The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
