In the mid-20th century, small brass handbells were marketed to suburban households under the guise of gracious domestic living. The idea was that an elegant host would gently sound a soft, polite chime to signal that the soup course was ready.

In practical reality, the moment this bird entered a home, someone discovered they could sit comfortably on the sofa and ring it vigorously to ask if anyone was planning to bring them another iced tea.

Look at the posture of this crane. That upward-pointing open beak is not admiring the clouds. It is preparing to project high-frequency sound waves across the living room with absolute, unrepentant authority.

Cast in solid golden brass during the mid-to-late 20th century, this charming figural handbell combines sleek mid-century lines with folk-art detailing.
