Vintage Pink Elephant Pitcher Mid Century Invento Ceramic Bar Jug 9 In
✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 346 | The Unapologetic Cocktail Hallucination of 1958
In 1958, standard social etiquette warned party guests that if they consumed more than two dry gin martinis, they would start hallucinating pink elephants.
Most hostesses treated this as a gentle caution.
The Invento Novelty Company, however, decided that instead of warning people away from the pink elephant, they should cast him in heavy English earthenware, dip him in high-gloss raspberry glaze, and station him directly on the bar cart to pour the water.
Look at his posture. Subtlety was never an option.
He sits upright with his front legs planted, ears flared back, and his trunk raised triumphantly into the air to form the pouring spout. Behind his head, a generous loop handle arches down his spine, allowing you to dispense ice water, cocktail mixer, or punch with absolute theatrical flair.
One eye retains a tiny hand-painted black pupil that stares directly into the room with quiet judgment, while the other remains an unpainted pink contour, as if he is winking at whatever questionable life choices are currently unfolding around the fondue pot.
Manufactured in England for Invento during the golden age of mid-century bar culture (circa 1950s to 1960s), this open-top figural jug is an absolute classic of vintage cocktail kitsch.
The glaze is a rich, saturated berry pink that commands attention from across the room. Flip him over, and you will find his authentic black underglaze factory stamp reading: "INVENTO MADE IN ENGLAND."
Whether you place him on a retro bar cart, style him on open kitchen shelving, or let him oversee your weekend brunch table, this elephant has seen sixty years of neighborhood parties and regrets absolutely none of them.
Having lived through decades of cocktail hours, he remains in very good vintage condition. The ceramic body is structurally sound and watertight, completely free of chips, breaks, or repairs. The high-gloss pink glaze displays authentic, widespread fine age crazing throughout, consistent with genuine 1950s English earthenware. The unglazed foot ring shows light, honest vintage shelf darkening, and the interior is clean.
Style him on a mid-century teak credenza, display him in a tiki bar, or gift him to a collector who understands that good barware should always have a sense of humor.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
