Vintage 1995 Stoneware Pitcher The Last Mile Cobalt Blue Wheat Signed Keaton

✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 337 | The Final Furlong Hydration Protocol

In 1995, someone survived an ordeal of monumental proportions.

Perhaps it was a grueling rural marathon, a multi-day charity trek along country roads, or simply enduring a four-hour municipal zoning hearing about backyard utility sheds without completely losing their composure.

Whatever transpired, the organizers knew that a cheap plastic trophy or a generic paper certificate would not do justice to the moment. You do not conquer the hardest part of the journey only to receive a lanyard.

You commemorate survival with a substantial, five-pound jug of wheel-thrown American stoneware stamped in deep cobalt blue declaring: "THE LAST MILE 1995."

Handmade in 1995 and hand-incised "Keaton 1995" on the raw clay foot, this substantial pitcher is built with serious, unapologetic weight. It also bears an impressed studio potter's mark on the side wall, showcasing authentic independent ceramic craftsmanship.

The form is classic American folk stoneware: a bulbous lower belly tapering to a wide, flared neck and a generous pouring lip.

The glaze is a traditional oatmeal-gray salt-glaze style speckled with warm iron mineral flecks. Across the front, crisp stamped cobalt blue lettering arches proudly above a folk-art botanical wheat sheaf motif. Along the sturdy pulled handle, the potter applied a bold stripe of cobalt blue brushwork running down the outer spine to complete the traditional look.

Today, nobody at the original finish line remembers whose idea the race was, but everyone can agree the pitcher handled the distance with far more dignity than the participants.

Put it to work serving ice water or hard cider at a rustic harvest dinner, use it on an open kitchen counter to hold wooden cooking spoons, or fill it with dried wheat stalks and sunflowers as a centerpiece for your dining table.

Having lived through thirty years of display and hospitality, it remains in very good vintage condition. The heavy stoneware is solid, watertight, and structurally sound with no large cracks or breaks. The handle is securely anchored, showing a small natural pale slip-glaze check at the upper joint typical of high-fire kiln cooling. The rim and spout show minor, expected pinpoint glaze nicks from handling, and the clean interior displays concentric throwing ridges and an authentic kiln mineral fleck fused into the bottom basin.

Style it on a farmhouse sideboard, nestle it near a country hearth, or add it to a curated collection of signed American art pottery.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.

Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.

The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
