In the 1980s, American household security was built entirely on trust and selective denial.

Families installed heavy deadbolts on the front door, only to leave the side door wide open so the neighborhood kids could run through the kitchen. Meanwhile, the official "secret" spare key was hidden underneath a plastic fake rock by the hose bib that fooled absolutely no one.

Right inside the front foyer, however, order reigned supreme.

That was the jurisdiction of the Suburban Perimeter Guardian.

Cast in solid golden brass, this charming little wall rack took its key-keeping duties with complete solemnity. It depicts an idealized slice of mid-century domestic tranquility: a cozy gabled cottage with a chimney, a neat picket fence, and a sturdy shade tree standing watch over the yard.

Beneath the manicured lawn, four sturdy brass wire hooks curve forward, ready to organize everything from station wagon ignition keys and mailbox keys to padlock spares and dog leashes.

Two countersunk screw holes are seamlessly cast into the openwork design (one inside the cottage window and one along the picket fence rail), allowing it to anchor securely flush against a wall, entryway beadboard, or kitchen message center.

The front face has been polished to a warm golden glow that catches the light, while the back remains in its authentic, unpolished sand-cast state, showing the original staked rivet points that lock the hooks firmly into the metal plate.

Having spent decades keeping family keys from falling between sofa cushions, it remains in very good vintage condition. The solid brass is structurally sound with no cracks, breaks, or loose components. The front displays light, honest surface handling marks consistent with vintage brassware, and the four hooks remain firmly anchored, displaying slight natural variations in curve and hand-finished tips original to manufacture.

The four hooks are securely staked through the plate and hold weight firmly, showing minor artisanal hand-curved irregularities at the tips original to manufacture. The front surface shows light, expected handling scratches and minor vintage patina in the recessed crevices. The reverse is left in its authentic, unpolished raw sand-cast finish as found.
