There are decorative brass deer that look like they are casually grazing in a tranquil pasture, and then there is this guy.

This buck is on absolute high alert.

Head thrown back, ears perked, nostrils testing the wind, and multi-tined antlers arched over his spine, he is radiating the pure, focused energy of an animal that just heard a twig snap three ridges away.

Cast during the height of the mid-century modern brass boom (circa 1970s to 1980s), this figurine stands apart from the sea of flat, generic brass herd figures. Modeled after a regal fallow deer, he features an incised coat texture and raised, dimensional spots cast directly across his back and flank.

The posture is elongated and sculptural, channeling that sleek Hollywood Regency meets woodland cabin aesthetic that made late-century brass so memorable.

Turn him over and you will find the original casting core vent beneath his belly and flat-ground hooves that keep him standing level and sturdy on all four slender legs.

Best of all, he has been left completely unpolished.
