✨ Cabinet Curiosity No. 248
Vintage Century Japan White Ceramic Console Bowl (Embossed Botanical Relief)
I learned the hard way that there is a massive difference between a soup bowl and a console bowl.
Picture it: It is a cold Tuesday night. I ladle two generous scoops of steaming homemade French onion soup into what I think is a lovely retro bowl. I walk carefully toward the dining table. One step. Two steps. Suddenly, broth starts cascading over the side like Niagara Falls, drowning my rug, soaking my socks, and melting my sanity.
As I stood there with soup dripping off my elbows, screaming at a piece of 1960s pottery for having the structural depth of a shallow saucer, I finally turned it over.
Stamped on the bottom in crisp raised block letters: CENTURY JAPAN.
It was never meant for soup. It is a mid-century decorative console bowl. It was designed for dried flowers, polished river stones, decorative moss balls, or holding keys on an entryway table. It was born to sit on a sideboard looking elegant, quiet, and structural—not to hold three cups of beef broth while I shamelessly parade it across the living room.
Lesson learned. My rug is ruined, but your coffee table setup is about to be elite.

A Note About Vintage Items & Their Little Crimes
Many of the treasures at Honeyblue Hollow come from estate sales, flea markets, and consignment shops where interesting things wait to begin their next chapter. Because they existed long before they found me, their pasts are checkered.
Vintage means used: Expect honest, authentic character consistent with age and previous love.
The Smell & Storage Factor: My workspace is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Buyers with extreme sensitivities should review the full Vintage Items & Allergens note in my Shop Announcement.
