During the 1920s, American glass houses like H. Northwood & Company perfected "stretch glass." After hot molded glass was sprayed with metallic salts to create a iridescent luster, glassblowers hand-flared and reshaped the hot vessel. As the glass expanded under heat, the cooling surface layer fractured into thousands of micro-lines, creating the signature satin sheen and subtle textured shimmer that stretch glass collectors adore.
This 10-inch flared console bowl in Northwood's rich "Russet" color is a masterclass in Art Deco centerpiece design.
Glowing in warm, golden-amber tones, the interior reflects soft violet, peach, and silver iridescence when caught by natural sunlight.
