✨ Cabinet Curiosities #29 & #30: The Reunion

Some families are born. Some are chosen. This one is glazed in ivory, blue, and teal and apparently refused to remain in separate Etsy listings.

Finding the serving bowl with its matching ceramic ladle was exciting. Discovering that it was signed by M.H. Mason and connected to Don Drumm Studios & Gallery made it something entirely different.

Then there was the substantial matching lidded casserole, also signed by M.H. Mason and still carrying part of its original Don Drumm gallery label.

If you have spent any time around my shop, you already know how much I admire Don Drumm and the remarkable independent artists whose work passed through his Akron gallery. These pieces were not made by Don himself; they were created by studio potter M.H. Mason and selected for sale through Don Drumm Studios & Gallery.

I originally listed the pieces separately. Eventually, it became clear that selling one without the other felt like breaking up a very tasteful 1980s pottery family.

So Cabinet Curiosities #29 and #30 are officially being reunited.

They are handmade, functional, beautiful, and substantial enough to be used at the table rather than sentenced to a lifetime behind glass.

Technically, the set is for sale.

Emotionally, the situation remains complicated, but at least they will be leaving together.

This coordinated vintage M.H. Mason studio pottery serving set includes a lidded casserole dish and a handled serving bowl with its original matching ceramic ladle.

The substantial stoneware pieces feature a soft ivory glaze with hand-painted blue and teal bands. Floral details include blue irises, green foliage, and warm red-orange blossoms. The casserole has two integrated side handles and a coordinating lid, while the smaller serving bowl features an integrated handle, double pouring spouts, and a matching handmade ladle.

Both serving vessels bear the artist’s incised signature. The casserole also retains part of its original Don Drumm Studios & Gallery price label, providing a wonderful connection to the celebrated Akron, Ohio art and craft institution.

The complete four-piece set includes:

One M.H. Mason casserole base

One coordinating floral lid

One handled M.H. Mason serving bowl
